New AOBA policy - 2006/03/27 02:48
Don't know if you all read the AOBA Board Minutes. Here is an interesting couple of entries:
1. Purchase of AOBA database names
a. We currently sell names in the database to farm members on a “one time use” basis. Members continue to abuse this policy. Depending upon fulfillment decisions, we may want to do database purchase/mailings from the office for our members to eliminate the abuse.
Along this same line of discussion, Erin reports there are members that have actually acquired our database and are reselling it to other members. Table this discussion to the face to face meeting in February.
Action Item: Erin to e-mail Amy the list of violators. Amy and Kathleen will address it.
2. Membership Directory
a. “Do not copy or duplicate” language will be added to the 2006 directory.
b. Penalties for abuse will be established at the board face-to-face in February.
So, if you copy from your membership directory names, addresses and emails (by hand) into your own personal mailing list, you will be in violation of the new policy and subject to "Penalties".
On the other hand, if you purchase the names in the database and use it twice, you will now be in violation of the new policy.
(I wonder if I am violating anything by copying the Board minutes? )
