Re:AFCNA Elections, Etc. - 2006/03/26 19:04 This is a wake up call for our fiber industry. Thank you Larry, for asking these pointed questions and sharing them. It is the big farms that are in the decision making offices.

Based in this report, it is time to come to a screeching halt and change the direction of our alpaca government’s structure. If the farms that do not see a future for the fleece are also the farms in leadership rolls, no wonder there is little action being taken to develop this fleece based industry. Just the image and the screwing around with the big buys that will ruin the taxable deductions for many livestock industries. Blatant disregard for their fellows as I see it. Shame on them.

As soon as we can surrender the thought that seven people can manage the varied needs of over 5,000 breeders of varied economic levels, the faster we can redirect.

AOBA does not need over thrown, it needs overhauled. There is no line of communication or accountability to the membership that I can see. Affiliates have no say in the direction of the organization. Affiliates are optional and arbitrary with no authority to govern or to contribute.

This industry has out grown its operating procedures. That doesn’t make anyone bad, it just means we need to stand up and initiate change.

The hypothetical order of governing AOBA, listed below, would better serve us all then the BOD and Committee controls that we now operate under.

I suggest we work towards adopting the following type of industry government:

AOBA Board of Directors: 7 (one from each region based on geographica nd farm density)

Regions: 6 continental USA, 1 International more added with growth(regional directors BOD, made up of one rep from each district)

Districts: based on geographic areas or states within the regions or farm proximities. Approximately 4 districts per region. District BOD made up of one or 2 Reps from each
Affiliates in the district.

Affiliates are made up of local farms and BOD will be made up of agreed upon 3's members.

These suggestions are for governing issues but this could also be the hierarchy for progressing in shows in order to reach nationals.

There will be many advantages to such a governing body. More voices will be heard, more membership involvement, equal representation.

So will it work?? Or do we keep whining. Who can write up a proposal for change? Or is AOBA as it stand working for the majority of the industry?
