Thanks for all the replies...much appreciated.
Well I thought Dew Poisoning at first and that was backed up by what I read in the Norm Evans book.
I started to treat for fungus alone so followed Norms instructions....then e-mailed a picture to my vet. She said mites and so the only way to find out was a scraping. So I went up to the vet and we scraped on a glass slide with mineral oil on it and sure enough when we looked under the microscope it was mites...evil little swine!
There is a bit of "chicken and egg" here, in that the mites and the fungus are linked in some way..
Last time I had mites I used an American recipe called "witches brew" :
2/3 pint mineral oil
1/5 pint DMSO
8 ml Ivermectin
5 cc Gentamycin (50 mg per ml)
It looked as though it worked but of course with one animal you never know. And gentamycin and DMSO are nasty stuff to have around.
This time I am going to try Atroban diluted 1:200 and sprayed on every two weeks....
I will report back....
