Long Gestations - 2006/06/14 07:25 There have been several postings on the AlpacaSite regarding overly long pregnancies this year. I understand that spring babies often come about 12 days later than fall babies, but these are running in the 380's to over 400 days. Are any of you seeing these types of numbers? I thought I read somewhere that females are fairly regular in the number of days of their gestation, right down to the time of day they deliver. My female's first cria was born on day 338. She currently is holding on at day 355. Any comments would be appreciated.

Re:Long Gestations - 2006/06/16 14:21 Diana,

We just had a new cria at the 348 day. The mother was a maiden. She and her sibilings were fall births and born almost exactly on the 11 months day. Evans and Hoffman state that Spring births are likely to be longer. Our cria was also 21 pounds!

These girls just would like to have babies in warmer weather.
