Alpaca Marketing Myths - 2006/10/25 02:12 Myth #1
Contrary to ARI registered statistics ratios ,alpacas produce boys to girls at a ratio of approx 50/50. The newest myth is being passed using ARI ratios to market alpacas as producing 70% girls to 30% boys. The truth is more and more males are not being registered. They are still being born 50/50.

Myth # 2

Suri's are not 5% or 10% of the National Registered herd but more like 18%+.

Re:Alpaca Marketing Myths - 2006/11/17 17:33 Now that is one that I hadn't seen. Alpacas have more girls than boys, huh?

I am thinking that we need to move towards a system, similar to ohter registries, where the stud owner needs to submit an annual report of all breedings performed. Seems to me that this would eliminate a lot of problems. It would no longer be possible to sweep the garbage under the rug.

Re:Alpaca Marketing Myths - 2007/02/21 02:05 I think it's more like that people just don't want to get the extra expenese if that particular boy does not qualify as stud.
I did suggested to ARI if we could update our own records FOR FREE if a male got castrated or an animal died for example. It would help a lot in our stud search to see what they produce.

ARI's new software update should be completed this Spring when we will see some hopefully positive changes.
