Page 1 of 5 April 8, 2005 The issue of breed standards is once again rising to prominence in the alpaca community. Current AOBA Board member Steve Hull recently stated, "There is GOING to be an AOBA 'type' conference to discuss breed standards. The result of the meeting may or may NOT result in a breed standard...Your board will shortly decide when/where this overall meeting will be." Yet, the issue of breed standards has proven to be such a divisive issue that it is difficult to engage in well-reasoned discussions on the subject. The creation of a breed standard, should it occur, will be an event of irrevocable magnitude. Given that, it is important that all stakeholders in the alpaca community become well educated on the subject. |
